Lieke Zweekhorst (1993) is a Dutch autonomous photographer. Her work explores and reflects on the emotional connections between herself, the subjects and their surroundings.
She began taking photographs in her early teens, but it wasn't until later in life that she discovered the deeper potential of the medium. Realizing that photography could be much more than just capturing an image. For her, photography is not just a means of expression; it is a way of understanding and connecting to the world, capturing the fleeting moments that define the human experience.
Her photography shows a genuine curiosity and an emotional involvement with her subjects.
With a background in social and mental health care, she uses her openness and way of understanding to connect with people.
Her work is rich in detail, the photos radiate tranquility and the subjects are portrayed with an intimacy that suggests the photographer knows them personally. Her photos explore universal themes, emotions and experiences that viewers can relate to, while leaving space for individual interpretation.
Ultimately, Zweekhorst aims to create work that resonates on a profoundly human level.
With her photography she wants to bridge the distance between viewer and subject and invite others to delve into the themes and subjects she depicts.
